Don’t you just love a good Sunday morning walk or a good walk in general on any other day. A few weeks ago I made my way to the Lemelerberg or in English Lemelermountain (in the province Overijssel near the town of Ommen). I know what you’re thinking, there are no real mountains in the Netherlands, however, you will be surprised that this country is not entirely flat.
This little country compensates its lack of a mountaneous landscape with its ‘’Dutch mountains.’’ These hills were mostly created by glaciers who pushed up sand into glacial hills and the Lemelerberg is one of those hills. It is actually part of a push moraine together with the Archemerberg. The Lemelerberg has a diverse landscape with its woods and heathland where you can encounter a few sheep from the nearby sheepshed, which is occassionally open to visitors. Moreover, you have stunning views on top of the hill. Therefore, its landscape is the perfect setting for local folktales. Don’t forget to get a cup of coffee or chocolate with delicious apple pie at the tearoom The Lemelerberg after you’ve finished one of the way- marked trails.
*Tearoom The Lemelerberg is only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m./11:00 a.m until 5 p.m.
